Why Garmoran Square?

Garmoran Square is renowned for its family-friendly, dog-friendly self-catering accommodation. Located in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, it provides a perfect base for exploring the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of the region. With beaches close by at Ardtoe, Castle Tioram and Glenuig. Here’s why it’s an excellent choice for families:

  • Spacious, Ground Floor Cottages: All accommodation is on the ground floor, making them easily accessible and safe for children and pets.
  • Stunning Mountain Views: Enjoy breathtaking views right from your doorstep, providing a serene backdrop for your holiday.
  • Rural Setting: The peaceful countryside offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, allowing families to reconnect with nature.
  • Family-Friendly Amenities: Each cottage is equipped with all the essentials to ensure a comfortable stay, including fully equipped kitchens, cozy living areas, and outdoor spaces for kids to play.

At Garmoran Square, you can choose from a range of cottages, each thoughtfully designed to accommodate families:

Activities for the Whole Family

The Scottish Highlands offer a plethora of activities to suit all ages and interests. Here are some family-friendly activities you can enjoy during your stay:

  • Nature Walks and Hiking: Explore the scenic trails around Garmoran Square, suitable for all fitness levels. The nearby Glenfinnan Viaduct Trail (45min drive) is a family favourite, especially for Harry Potter fans.
  • Wildlife Watching: Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including deer, otters, and a variety of bird species. We have bird feeders all around the garden to encourage lots of varies. In the woods across the road you may be lucky enough to spot a red squirrel.
  • Beaches and Lochs: Visit the beautiful Silver Sands of Morar or take a leisurely boat trip on Loch Shiel.
  • Historical Sites: Discover the rich history of the area with visits to local castles such as Tioram Castle and the Glenfinnan Monument.
  • Local Events and Festivals: Check out the local calendar for events and festivals that provide a glimpse into the region’s culture and traditions.
  • A visit to an Island: Day trips to Mull, Skye or the Small Isles are all achievable. Our favourite is to drive to Kilchoan and go across to Tobermory as foot passengers on the Calmac ferry and enjoy the local crafts and food for sale in the shops. Visit the aquarium and have something to eat and if we have time walk out to the lighthouse or around Aros park.

Tips for a Smooth Family Holiday

To ensure your family holiday goes smoothly, consider these tips:

  1. Plan Ahead: Make a list of activities and attractions you want to visit. Booking tickets in advance for popular sites can save time and avoid disappointment. Especially if the Jacobite Steam train is on your list.
  2. Pack Smart: The Scottish Highlands can be unpredictable weather-wise. Pack layers, waterproof clothing, and comfortable walking shoes. Don’t forget essentials for the kids and pets! In Scotland there is no such thing as bad weather only the wrong clothes!
  3. Self-Catering Essentials: Stock up on groceries and local produce. The fully equipped kitchens in our cottages make it easy to prepare family meals.
  4. Relax and Enjoy: Allow time for relaxation. The beauty of Garmoran Square is its tranquillity. Spend evenings playing board games, reading, or simply enjoying the stunning views from your cottage.
